GI Adams has built custom homes across Prince Edward Island since 1973, and Abram-Village sits right in our own corner of the Island, a short drive from our shop in Elmsdale. It is one of the Acadian communities at the heart of the Évangéline region in the west, with deep French roots and a strong sense of belonging. Most people who build here are putting down roots near family or staying in the community they grew up in, and our custom home building brings decades of Island experience to every project, so we are glad to come out, walk a lot and talk through what building here would look like.

Abram-Village is a rural community, so most of the homes we build sit on country lots with room around them. That makes the groundwork the first real piece of the job. On rural land you are usually on a private well and a septic system, and we help you plan the drilling, the septic field and where the house sits before anything is poured. We look at drainage, at how the sun moves across the lot through the day, and at how to set the home so it lives well and uses the land you have.

The homes that suit this community tend to be practical and built to last: bungalows, storey-and-a-half designs and family homes with a proper mudroom, a warm kitchen and a garage or workshop with space to work. We build for Island winters, which means insulation done right, framing and roofs sized for our snow load, and durable exteriors that hold up to years of freeze and thaw. You choose the layout and the finishes. We make sure the structure underneath is sound and quietly built for the long haul.

On a rural lot the groundwork is its own piece of the project, and we walk you through it before any price is set. We assess how the land grades and drains, what the red soil and clay are like to dig and build on, and where the driveway and access will run. PEI ground tends to hold water, so we plan grading to keep it moving away from the house, and we carry foundations below our frost depth so an Island winter of freezing and thawing cannot work them loose. We sort the well, the septic field and any permitting up front, so there are no surprises once the build begins. We also orient the house to the sun and away from the prevailing wind, which, with insulation done properly for our climate, makes it easier to heat and more comfortable year round.
