"Honest, on schedule, and the workmanship is second to none. They treated our renovation budget like it was their own money. Couldn't recommend them more."
"Charles and the team at GI Adams were excellent to work with. They provided great contacts to help us get our property built in a frictionless process, and the workmanship was top notch. Additionally, any issues we had were taken care of to ensure a quality finished product. Overall communication was maintained through the whole project and the team of contractors were pleasant to work with. Thanks GI Adams for building our home!"
Building a home in Crapaud, PEI.
GI Adams has been building custom homes across Prince Edward Island since 1973, working out of our shop in Elmsdale. Crapaud is a small village on the Island’s south shore, out toward the Charlottetown end of the Island, a drive we make regularly. Coming out to walk a lot, meet on site and keep a build moving is part of our normal week, so being based in Elmsdale is no obstacle to our custom home building here.
Building in and around Crapaud usually means rural and coastal land rather than serviced subdivision lots. On a country lot we plan early for the things that matter on acreage: where the well and septic go, the driveway and grade, drainage, and how the home sits on the land. Closer to the south shore we also think about the prevailing wind and how to place and shelter the home so it sits comfortably in its setting, with the views you want and the protection you need.
The homes that suit this part of the Island tend to be unhurried, practical family homes that make the most of the land and the light. We build for the local climate as a matter of course, with insulation suited to PEI winters, snow load carried properly, a mudroom that earns its place, and durable exteriors chosen to weather freeze, thaw and coastal weather season after season. Quiet, solid work meant to last.
Good groundwork matters before any framing goes up, and it matters all the more on a rural or shore lot. Island soil is often red clay that holds water and moves with the frost, so we look closely at site prep, grading and drainage from the start, and we set foundations below the frost line so the home rests on solid, stable footing through the winters. Building tight and well insulated is part of the same thinking: a home that holds its heat is kinder to live in and to run through the winter.
Before the drawings are finished we walk you through the practical side too. We assess the lot, confirm what the land, the servicing and the setbacks allow, and sort out the permits with you, so there are no surprises once the build is underway. On acreage that also means settling the well and septic and the access early. It is the unglamorous part of the work, and it is where a build either starts well or starts off crooked, so we take the time to get it right.

Good to know.
Yes. Building near Crapaud usually means rural or coastal land rather than serviced subdivision lots, and that is much of what we build there. We plan early for the driveway, grade, drainage and how the home sits on the land, so a country or shore lot works with you rather than against you.
On rural acreage a home needs its own well and septic, and we plan for both from the start. We look at where they go, the lay of the land and the drainage early, so the systems are placed sensibly and the rest of the home is laid out around them with no awkward surprises later.
Closer to the shore we think about the prevailing wind and how to place and shelter the home so it sits comfortably in its setting. We walk the lot with you to balance the views you want against the protection you need, then build a durable exterior suited to coastal weather.
